What Landcare area do I look after?
The East Gippsland Landcare Network covers both Bairnsdale & districts and the High Country region. The area is bound by the Perry River in the west, the Gippsland Lakes System in the south, Lakes Entrance in the east and the foothill forests of the Great Dividing Range in the north, up to Dargo, Swifts Creek and across to Gelantipy .
Where do I live?
In Bruthen on a lovely little place that borders State Forest.
What is my Background?
I grew up in Lakes Entrance and completed my secondary schooling in Bairnsdale. From there I went on to complete a Diploma in Natural Resource Management. Since completing my Diploma, I have had experience in a variety of fields.
· Tour guiding at the Buchan Caves
· Maintaining visitor facilities and carrying out pest control works in the Alpine National Park.
· Carrying out the English Broom Project, digitally mapping English Broom locations in the Alpine National Park.
· Silviculture – Forestry Victoria, regenerating logging coupes after they have been harvested. I also carried out fire
duties in the summer period.
· Revegetation of degraded private land.
· Pest management and control, both plant and animal.
My Interests & Hobbies are?
Anything that involves being outside and physically active. I enjoy camping, horse riding, 4WD, swimming and helping on the farm.
My passion for Landcare is?
I am an outside person, so in turn I have a passion for the environment and all the problems we face managing it. My passion for Landcare is working with people who are like minded, people who are actively managing environmental issues, people who are out there doing something.
My aspirations for Landcare in 2008 are:
As I am a new member to the East Gippsland Landcare Network, my first goal is to develop a rapport with my coworkers, land holders, Landcare groups and other key agency staff. From there, my aspirations for Landcare in 2005 are;
· Successfully coordinate the Red Gums Plains Recovery Project for 2004-2005. Liase with landholders and Landcare groups to develop a strategic coordinated approach to native vegetation enhancement, through protection of remnant vegetation and waterways and strategic revegetation corridors.
· Act as Landcare support officer for the East Gippsland Landcare Network by strategically supporting the Landcare community via the completion and implementation of the East Gippsland Landcare Network’s Landscape and Regional Community Support Plan.
· Maintain and raise the profile of Landcare and the associated projects, through developing Landcare project fact sheets, Landcare group brochures, field days, community activities and publicity.
· Liase with key land holders, Landcare groups and rural community support groups to develop a strategic coordinated approach to future programs.
